Racking for logistics and 3PL operators.
Storage density is not everything; retrieval time is equally important.
A logistics operator always optimizes two conflicting variables: how much material fits in a warehouse (density) and how quickly it can be moved (accessibility). The higher the density, the more time is lost accessing a single SKU.
The choice of structure depends on the mix of your SKUs: how many there are, how quickly they turn over, and how homogeneous they are. For your high-turnover SKUs, you need selective pallet racking; for low-turnover and highly homogeneous items, a drive-in or Autosat system; for carton picking, a multi-level mezzanine.
